Dirk van Rijn began immediately after the days in May 1940 with drawing and painting. Much has been lost, many survived. Life as the offspring until the end of time will not forget. So from one day to our freedom was trampled and shot into the ground. According to eyewitnesses, battle reports, hour long visits to archives and museums, these paintings come about. Was it his hobby? His passion? His hobby? Or was it perhaps a phobia? He knows itself. As a distant descendant of Rembrandt, he created, self-taught, more than one hundred plates of his terrible war.
